George grew up in the family of a pastor. At an early age he felt the call to pastoral ministry, but in his teenage years George dismissed it as a childhood dream. He began making plans to become an engineer, but in 1992 when
he was 16, his parents moved their family from their farm in Indiana to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, to plant a church affiliated with Calvary Chapel. It was one of the most difficult times of his life, but also the most life-transforming. After observing and being part of the amazing work God was doing and seeing the spiritual hunger of the youth in this former Soviet country, George felt the call to church planting. He had just completed his freshman year at Kyiv National University with a major in applied mathematics. After getting his MS, he began helping plant a church in a large city in Eastern Ukraine. While visiting the United States during this period, he met his wife Sharon, a woman who was passionate for missions. They married a year and a half later, and Sharon joined George in Kyiv, where he was serving as assistant pastor under his father. Very soon, his wife’s heart for all the nations, and especially Muslims, began to challenge him and broaden his vision beyond ministry focused solely on Ukrainians. They began seeing more ways to reach out to other people groups within Kyiv, such as Iranians, Iraqis, and Chinese. George and Sharon started an Iraqi home group and planted a Chinese church with the help of some new converts. Several years later in 2007, they were called to plant the first Calvary Chapel in the western part of Ukraine. It became an international church, with a mix of Ukrainians and many international students from all over Africa. During that time, George also assisted in planting another church in a large city in Western Ukraine. In 2015 they were called back to Kyiv to take over the church his father had planted. God has put it on George and Sharon’s heart to help start many more churches in Kyiv so that even more people of this wonderful city may come to know the love and sacrifice of Jesus for our sins and to experience the life-transforming power this brings.
My wonderful wife and I have been blessed with five active boys who age from one to ten and who daily teach us much about our loving Heavenly Father.
